At Rocket Mortgage®, we believe that a home is so much more than a house. It’s what gives each of us the stability and security we need to build our best lives. Sadly, more than 38,000 veterans across the country will not have a place to call home tonight. This is heartbreaking and unacceptable. No one should experience homelessness, especially those who have sacrificed to serve our country, which is why we’re proud to be the lead sponsor of the Built for Zero initiative.
Built for Zero is a national effort, designed by the nonprofit Community Solutions, that is designed to drive change and help committed U.S. communities end homelessness, beginning with chronic and veteran homelessness. By developing real-time information on people experiencing homelessness, aligning housing resources, tracking progress and sharing proven strategies across the country, Built for Zero has shown that ending veteran homelessness is not only possible, it’s happening.
Right now, 85 U.S. communities are a part of the Built for Zero movement and 11 communities have ended veteran homelessness or chronic homelessness. Since 2015, these communities have housed more than 114,000 people total, including more than 71,000 veterans. We are proud to celebrate four of those communities through the stories of those they have supported: Bergen County, New Jersey; Phoenix and Maricopa County, Arizona; Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, North Carolina; and Detroit, Michigan.
“Time and again it has been proven that the only way to achieve long-term success in this space is to work across groups and agencies, using data to drive a laser focus on ensuring that our most vulnerable neighbors have a home. Eleven communities have already achieved zero, and this partnership [with Rocket Mortgage] will help many more reach that goal." Rosanne Haggerty, President and CEO, Community Solutions
